Weber: Take control of your render
The UK climate is commonly considered as one of the biggest obstacles for renderers. From October through to spring, rain, frost and limited daylight threaten the quality of the job, whereas in summer, warmer months can cause render to dry out too quickly, leading to an uneven finish.
It's crucial to understand what can be done to prevent issues with your render because the chemical reaction between cement and water initiates a setting process that can fluctuate depending on the temperature. Weber states that their products must be applied between temperatures of 5°C and 30°C – under or over these temperatures risks unintentional damage as the render sets, such as delamination or cracking.
Applying and scraping monocouche at the right time of day is essential for successful monocouche rendering.
Why scrape the same day?
It can be tempting to apply monocouche in the late afternoon and put off scraping until the morning when the days are short and the nights are chilly, however scraping on the same day has a tonne of benefits.
Easier scraping:
If the weather is cold or damp during the night, scraping first thing may not be possible, affecting your plans for the rest of the day. On the other hand, if temperatures are unusually high, you'll have to spend more time scraping because the render will be harder. Most monocouche render is easiest to work with just a few hours after it’s been applied.
More consistent finish:
Scraping render at different points of the set is the easiest way to create colour problems. While early scraping will produce a darker shade, a late scrape will make the finish much lighter. Both ends of the scale will also affect the texture of the monocouche render.
Productivity:
Scraping on the same day is a great way to increase productivity. It means you can make one visit to the scaffold, complete the work in a single day, and not have to come in on Saturday if you spray on Friday. It also allows you to get a job done quickly when the weather window is limited.
How to achieve a same-day scrape in all weathers
Now you know why scraping on the same day is the best option, how do you actually achieve it?
In warmer weather
To achieve a same-day scrape in warm weather, you will need weber monocouche retarder. It will not alter the colour of your render or affect your machine as it is a colourless liquid. This product can slow down the scrape time in warmer months if applied correctly, meaning that rendering can still be completed at the standard of 20°C when it is up to 30°C
In colder weather
To achieve a same-day scrape in cold weather, all you need is weber monocouche accelerator. It is also a clear liquid that will not affect the colour of the render or damage your machine. Once applied, it accelerates the initial set so that at 5°C, the scrape time will be the same as for standard monocouche at 20°C meaning the render is less susceptible to lime bloom.
