Why we are proud to support Pallet LOOP

16th Jul 2024

Here at CCF we are committed to driving sustainability forwards, and working closely with building materials manufacturers is just one of the ways we are making small changes that are making a big difference. That’s why we are proud to support British Gypsum in its new partnership with The Pallet LOOP – a new initiative that aims to reduce pallet waste across the construction industry.

Over the last few months, we have seen more and more of the distinctive green reusable pallets arrive in our branches across the UK. But what is Pallet LOOP and more importantly, how can CCF’s involvement benefit our customers? Here’s everything you need to know to stay in the loop!

Reducing waste one pallet at a time

The Pallet LOOP is a circular economy pallet supplier which is working with leading manufacturers to reduce reliance on using traditional timber pallets to transport and distribute building products. Once the products have been delivered and installed, many of these pallets unavoidably end up as construction waste as they can be difficult to dispose of sustainably. The Pallet LOOP scheme aims to promote the greater use of reusable pallets to reduce this waste and provide a more efficient option.

British Gypsum recently became the first building materials manufacturer in the UK to team up with The Pallet LOOP and as CCF is one of the company’s key distribution partners, many of our own customers will now have started to receive their orders on reusable pallets. The first stage of the scheme has seen British Gypsum change the pallets it uses for its bagged plaster and accessories products, with the transition of up to 70 per cent of its plasterboard range commencing in Summer 2024. The remaining 30 per cent will be moved over to reusable pallets at a later stage.

Receive, return, reuse

Other than the fact that the reusable pallets are a bright green colour, there is no difference in how to handle, store or transport the pallets. Customers will be able to contact The Pallet LOOP to arrange for the pallets to be collected once all the goods have been received so that they can be put back into circulation and sites can be clear of unwanted waste.

A number of our customers have already expressed interest in taking part in the Pallet LOOP scheme and one of our main contractor partners is currently trialling the use of reusable pallets on a live project. We hope to be able to share more news about this in the coming weeks!

Part of the bigger picture

CCF is committed to identifying practical ways that we can reduce the environmental impact of our business operations and reducing waste and increasing recycling is an important part of this.
